New species of dinosaur has found in Mongolian gobi

Mongolian gobi is a rich in discoveries of paleontology fossils. Recently, international scientific magazine “Earth” has published a report on the discovery of a new species of dinosaur found in Mongolian gobi desert.

Research team led by Dr. Kh. Tsogtbaatar, director of Institute of Paleontology and Geology, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, was discovered the dinosaur skeletons in Khanbogd sum, South Gobi aimag and named this new species of dinosaur as Gobihadros mongoliensis.

Anatomical studies of fossils have identified that Gobihadros mongoliensis is a close relative of hadrosaurs those were lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, 65 million years ago.

The researchers highlight that it is the first known discovery of a complete dinosaur skeleton in central Asia from the period of Late Cretaceous.
